Agenda

PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DATE

Wednesday, 22nd August. Meet at 6pm for 6:30pm start.

Sean Corfield is in Australia for a limited time and he has agreed to present tonight.

World Singles has been using CFML for over a decade but in the last couple of years has decided to add Clojure to the mix, to tackle some of the interesting issues you can face when you have millions of users and many gigabytes of data to process. World Singles has been using Clojure in production for over a year now, alongside CFML. This talk will introduce some of the concepts behind functional programming, offer a brief overview of the Clojure language, and show how well it integrates with CFML to provide large scale data processing, concurrency, and great performance.

Please RSVP to help with the catering numbers. You'll need to sign in and join the group to RSVP.

Sorry to cause a change of date for you folks... my wife & I are in the area for a cat show in Tamworth on the 25th but we leave before your regular meeting date I believe.

Whilst the talk looks at how Clojure has helped World Singles scale their CFML-based dating platform, I can be pretty flexible with the direction of the talk and dive into any areas the group wants. Feel free to post questions / suggestions in advance here so I can take that feedback into account.

Looking forward to visiting in three weeks!

...and just to clarify my comment: that was meant to be a clarification of why the meeting is on the 22nd instead of your regular date!

We're in Sydney on the 17th, 22nd, 23rd, 26th, 27th; Melbourne on the 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st (I'm speaking at the Melbourne group on the 21st); Tamworth on the 24th and 25th.
